New investments, new changes create new possibilities

After languishing for the last few years, home buying is beginning to pick up in Eastern Washington. The advent of the new Vintage Valley Boulevard project, using a combination of federal stimulus funds, state road maintenance funds, New Vision grants and loans, and developer contribution, will provide a shot in the arm for the project and allow us to implement new directions.

As well, we have a number of other new directions for 2014. Another new development is, well, new development. With the reduction of lots available in Phase I, Zillah Lakes is opening some new townhome lots along the north ridge of the golf course on Barbee Court. These lots will feature territorial views of the golf course, the Yakima River area, and Mt. Adams.

See our new Masterplan map of the proposed Vintage Valley Boulevard project. It is a major City of Zillah project that is part of a long term plan to create, control, and identify Exit 50 (Zillah Lakes exit) as the "New Gateway to Washington Wine Country." A tree-lined boulevard is planned to wind along the long south border of Zillah Lakes. The masterplan concept features an open air market, 16 pump gas station, a new resort hotel linked to the golf course. Many other ideas have surfaced, but suffice to say, with a new freeway interchange opening up for development, one that most tours use to approach the nearest wine country tours to Yakima, it will definitely re-invigorate the project, and offer a wider range of services for Zillah Lakes residents.

The Zillah Lakes Community Garage Sale set for June 7

Our community garage sale has always been a big day on our calendar. Starting a 8 AM and going til 2 PM this year, it features a variety of shared and individual garage sale events that can put you in touch with some real swag at down and dirty prices. And speaking of DIRTY, the timing of the Garage Sale co-incides with the ARC fundraising event Dirty and Proud (see item below). So if you're coming out to challenge yourself on the obstacle course, we challenge you to keep from buying at least a carload of new-used items from our garage sale.

Parking for the Garage sale is best in the town center parking oval. Then walk through the neighborhood to browse and select items to pick up after you've scouted everything out.

Open Registration obstacle course fundraiser set for June 7.

A fundraiser for the disability support non-profit, ARC will be held at Zillah Lakes on June 7 from 10AM to 1 PM. Participants wishing to participate in a fun and challenging obstacle course will make a entry donation and then run a course that will include several challenges involved mud, ropes, and a variety of other challenges. The event is called "Dirty and Proud," and will likely make you both. ARC started in Yakima in 1953 and has a long history of supporting public policies, systems change, research and advocacy for people with intellectural developmental disabilities and their families (that's the "Proud" part).

So if you are an athlete with a hankering for competition and special challenges, you can't do much better than this. And it will all be held at Zillah Lakes, making use of our golf course, our lakes, walking trail and ample vacant land. Register online and come on out to see us... take a tour of our beautiful project while you are here.

Your reward even if you don't come in first? Plan to set aside Sunday for a grand tour of the Rattlesnake Hills AVA wineries. There's about 30 of them up in them thar hills! You are likely to (literally) get a taste of the terroir at Zillah Lakes; wash it down the next day with some of the best wines in the world!
