Ah!! Spring

Spring has sprung! All of a sudden, trees throughout the Yakima Valley have burst into blossom. We've been experiencing the Spring Barrel Tasting activities and our hearts are warmed by a few eighty degree days. What could be better! Sales activity has warmed as well with several existing homes now occupied with new buyers, and new homes going up apace!

Our contribution to the Barrel Tasting weekends has been to hold a few Saturday Evening late open houses (5:00 PM to 7:00 PM) for tourists and interested neighbors to experience the wine country life style. It features Rattlesnake hills wine, paired with specialty cheeses, live music and indoor-outdoor entertaining. We will continue to host these Saturday Evenings for the first two weekends in May (May 2 and May 9). If you're coming out to tour wine country, please come out and see us! (Also, Sunnyside (just 15 minutes away) has one of the longest running Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the state. It a great way to find the cross-cultural experience of the Yakima Valley and get a wine tour, too.)

The warm days have encouraged us out to our patios for evening discussions and quiet viewings of the burgeioning population of ducks, swallows, a few great blue Herons, and all kinds of birds we've not seen before. In addition, muskrats, beavers and other wildlife regularly ply the waters on their appointed rounds.

Progress at Zillah Lakes:

The Sign
One of the long-awaited signs of progress at Zillah Lakes is our entry monument sign. Suddenly, it's all coming together. The sign will feature our famous logo, an elevated sun on tile backsplash, two waterfalls and a vineyard, bringing all the elements of wine country together. Come on out and check our progress: we should be able to inaugurate the sign by the end of May.

Our entry median is also landscaped and new trees, lights and light standards should all be appearing in the coming month. Generally the whole project is beginning to take on the look of a wine country resort... don't miss it!

Our Walking Trail/Nature Path

As winter gave way to spring, we began staking out a permanent walking trail through the richest wildlife areas and below you see the first photographs of the trail. It's about 1/3 done and when finished should provide about a 2 mile trail along a stream where you can see everything from beaver and muskrat dams to native plants in wild habitat. It is planned as a two-person wide walking trail, will feature bird "blinds" (camoflauged seating areas for hidden viewing of wildlife) and may eventually compact enough to accomodate bikes & golf carts! Even with the golf course finished, the trail will provide an ideal place for walkers and as well as bird and wildlife watchers.

In addition to the walking trail now in development, we'll be grading out the community center area and grassing the mini-park across the bridge. We may even have a tennis court or two installed by the end of the spring!

Remember: we are offering FREE GREENS FEES on another local golf course (Mt. Adams Golf Course) until we ARE able to complete work on our course. What a bargain!
